This is the single most effective and by far the most popular aesthetic procedure in the world. It is the greatest advance in recent cosmetic medicine and is in fact one of the greatest advances of medicine as a whole of the last two decades.
What can we use Wrinkle Treatment (Botox) to treat?
Pre-Treatment Instructions Botox & Filler
Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)
Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications, if possible for a period of 2 weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.
Schedule your Dermal Filler and Botox appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Results from the Dermal Filler and Botox injections will take approximately 4 to 7 days to appear. Also bruising and swelling may be apparent in that time period.
Discontinue Retin-A 2 days before and 2 days after treatment.
Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area.
If you have a history of cold sores please let Orchard Skin know,as we may put you on an anti-viral medication prior to treatment.
Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.
You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Do NOT manipulate the treated area for 3 hours following treatment. Do NOT receive facial, laser or microdermabrasion after Botox injections for at least 10 days. Ask your practioner if you are not sure about the time frame of certain treatments.
Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after your Botox treatment. This will prevent the Botox from tracking into the orbit of your eye and causing drooping eyelid.
It can take approximately 4 to 7 days for results to be seen. If the desired result is not seen after 2 weeks of your treatment you may need additional Botox.
Do NOT perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 6 hours after treatment. This will keep the Botox in the injected area and not elsewhere.
First the muscles to be treated are identified by asking the patient to make specific facial expressions. Then the muscles causing the undesired wrinkles are injected through a tiny needle. The muscles in time relax, as the Botox blocks the nerve impulses going to those muscles. The overlying skin relaxes and other still active muscles pull on the area, therefore erasing the wrinkles.
The treatment only takes 5-10 minutes, and is very painless. Numbing cream can be applied to your skin before treatment, but the needles are so tiny that there is normally no need. Many patients have commented that the sensation is similar to acupuncture or eyebrow waxing, and many have even commented that the whole experience is actually quite relaxing!
The results of the treatment become apparent after 2-7 days, and the effects should last about 3-6 months. If the patient returns for regular follow up treatments, the muscles reduce in size gradually and in time the effects can last much longer. Latest research has shown that when patients have undergone botox treatments for a few years, the wrinkles are erased permanently.
Botox is a protein derived from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum, having undergone a proven safe and highly effective purification process. The biggest misconception is that it is a poison, and this it most certainly is not. It is in fact organic and completely safe. Since the early 1970s it has been used in treating conditions in many fields of medicine including neurology and ophthalmology and it has been used in aesthetic medicine for over 20 years.
In over 30 years of use in medicine, there have never been any reported serious allergic reactions and with such longevity we can say with certainty that there are no long term side effects. The most important thing to remember is that this treatment is non-permanent and very safe. The botox is metabolised at the injection site and it does not spread to any other parts of the body. If the patient ever decides to stop having the treatment, their appearance will revert to their original state.
The feedback from our patients is that they are thrilled with their new natural and younger look, and most tell us that nobody (usually including their partners!) ever realises that they had any kind of cosmetic treatment and the usual comments are that they look very healthy and fresh! We pride ourselves to take a measured and personalised approach to each patient with Botox, therefore always striving to avoid the dreaded frozen and drooping effects, and always giving our patients the desired naturally youthful look.
Side effects are not very common with Botox treatments, and very importantly even if they occur there are no long term side effects whatsoever. For about one hour after the treatment the patient may have small red bumps at the site of the injections, but these fade within 1 hour, really making this a “lunchtime” treatment.
Headaches, slight bruising, tightness and heaviness are rare side-effects but all of these usually resolve within a matter of days.
Do not consume excessive alcohol for 24 hours after the procedure.
Do not do any aerobic exercise for 24 hours after the procedure.
Do not massage the areas treated.
Do not have any facial massages, facials or put any excessive pressure to the areas treated for 1 week after the procedure. This should include avoiding scuba diving or wearing tight fitting motorbike helmets.
Do not go to sleep for 4 hours after the procedure, and try to sleep lying flat in bed the night after the procedure
Try to exercise the muscles treated for 4 hours after the procedure. So keep smiling, frowning etc.
If you get any small bruises do apply ice and arnica cream. Mineral based make up can be applied immediately after the procedure
If you bruise easily, you may want to take arnica tablets for 1 day before the procedure and for 5 days afterwards.
Try to avoid sun beds and saunas for 3-4 days after the procedure.
In the case of underarm sweating treatment, do not use any deodorant for 24 hours.
If there is anything which is not clear, or if you are not sure that results have come up to your expectations, do contact us and arrange for a free 4 week follow up.
